Andy Rubin: Android activations reach 900,000 a day

Written By bama on Sunday 10 June 2012 | 22:26

Google Sr. VP Andy Rubin has been the face (and father) of Android for some time. The executive now says that 900,000 cellular enabled Android powered phones and tablets are activated daily. That is up from the 850,000 units turned on daily back in February during MWC 2012, and does show a bit of a slow down in growth from last year. But that happens with any rapidly growing product. Back in 2010 when daily handset activations were 300,000, an increase of 200,000 daily activations to 500,000 a day represented a 67% increase. That same increase now would be a much more mature sounding 22% rise.

Rubin also took the time to refute the rumors that say he is leaving Mountain View for an office and new nameplate at a different company. He made sure to say that he has "No plans to leave Google" in the same tweet where he brought up those new Android activation figures. There was some speculation that Rubin was going to leave Google and join start up Cloudcar. We can now officially nip that rumor in the bud.
