Sprint and Boost Mobile are no longer selling iDEN-based phones

Written By bama on Thursday 7 June 2012 | 05:10

Well people, the time has finally come, as we’re entering a time and a world where there are no more iDEN-based phones being sold. From the sound of it all, Sprint has apparently ceased sales of its iDEN-based devices – both online and its retail stores.

Furthermore, it seems to be more widespread as Boost Mobile, one of Sprint’s prepaid subsidiaries, is also moving forward in ceasing all sales of iDEN devices that run on Sprint’s iDEN network. Well, it doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to check out some kind of chirping push-to-talk device, since newer devices are now relying on Sprint’s CDMA network for its DirectConnect feature.

Previously, we were all made aware that the entire network would shutter on the planned date of June 30, 2013, which is still well over a year at this point – but in the meantime, Sprint is making the proactive effort of achieving its goal by no longer selling iDEN-based phones. As we get closer to that end date for its iDEN network, we’ll probably hear more regarding Sprint’s plans on helping customers with iDEN phones to transition over to newer devices that rely on DirectConnect.
