U.S. Cellular asks for more money upfront with the Samsung Galaxy S III

While the Samsung Galaxy S III will be available in the U.S. from the top four carriers, Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular also will be joining the parade. The regional carrier will be accepting pre-orders for the eagerly anticipated device on June 12th. It will deliver the Samsung Galaxy S III to its customers sometime next month, most likely after Verizon subscribers get their units on July 9th.

Unlike the other carriers, those U.S. Cellular customers buying the Samsung Galaxy S III will be asked to put up $100 more that they will get back in the form of a mail-in rebate. In other words, the 16GB version of the phone in white or blue will be $199.99 after the rebate and the 32GB variant will be $249.99 after the rebate. But this means that if are a U.S. Cellular customer and want the device, you will be laying out $299.99 or $349.99. Considering that many carriers have done away with the whole rebate thing, U.S. Cellular's actions here seem so five years ago.

Bottom line is that all of the U.S carriers that are now set to deliver the Samsung Galaxy S III at the same price for each model. The only difference seen thus far is the lack of the 32GB unit for AT&T which is also getting an exclusive red model.
